Principal Virtualization Infrastructure Engineer

About the role

Our client is seeking a deeply experienced Principal Virtualization Infrastructure Engineer to serve as the most senior technical authority within their infrastructure operations team.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring at least 10 years of progressive systems administration expertise across complex, enterprise-scale environments.

What you'll do

• Design, implement, and maintain highly available on-premises and hybrid infrastructure, including virtualization platforms, storage arrays, and backup systems.
• Serve as the final escalation point for complex system incidents, performing root-cause analysis and driving permanent remediation.
• Lead capacity planning, performance monitoring, and proactive tuning to ensure optimal service delivery across all environments.
• Develop and enforce security hardening standards, patch management processes, and access controls in alignment with industry best practices.
• Mentor and guide a team of systems administrators, conducting knowledge-transfer sessions and reviewing technical designs.
• Author and maintain comprehensive documentation, runbooks, and disaster recovery plans; lead regular DR testing exercises.

What you'll bring

• 10+ years of hands-on systems administration experience in large, multi-site enterprise environments.
• Expert-level proficiency with Windows Server and/or Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu) operating systems, including scripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
• Deep experience managing virtualization technologies such as VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V at scale.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise storage solutions (SAN, NAS) and backup/recovery platforms.
• Proven ability to lead major infrastructure projects, including migrations, upgrades, and greenfield deployments.

Nice to have

• Relevant certifications such as MCSE, RHCE, VCP, or ITIL are highly valued.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and hybrid identity management is a strong plus.
• Familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef) and container orchestration is advantageous.
